A few years ago after searching for an interior designer who had an appealing style and was approachable, I found Ann Maria.
I have always thought of my home as a sanctuary furnished with functional art and Ann Maria has helped me achieve my goals. One large project was my master bathroom. It has a theme of water without being too literal. After initially selecting stones for the floor and tile for the walls that just did not get it, Ann Maria selected slate floor tile that include a number of warm blue, green and brown colors that timelessly depicts the notion of water. She then selected a complimentary glass shower tile that shimmers like water. Around the deep blue jacuzzi, Ann Maria selected another glass tile that compliments the shower tile, the floor and the jacuzzi. For the sinks and hardware, she selected hammered brass. My bathroom is unique and warm. My description does not adequately describe Ann Maria’s fantastic selections.
Over the years, we have become friends and I look forward to working with Ann Maria on my next big project.
Ann Maria is a design wizard. I trusted her judgment from the moment 10 years ago that she selected just the right carpet for my stairs. This was a minor project but I was truly stumped by the dizzying array of choices and anxious to find someone with great taste and the ability to sense exactly what I’m looking for and what’s right for my home.
Since then she’s found the perfect fabric for pillows, curtains, chairs, window treatments, and whatever was needed. This all started as little extras to “pull the room together.” Then I moved and she had an empty space to work with, a very special round turret room. First came the curved leather sofa that fits exactly, not too big, not too small. Then a desk, book shelves, small tables needed for workspace. But the floor was bare, the pieces not part of a whole. And serendipitously, Ann Maria met an artist friend of mine in Paris. Arthur Hall Smith called his painting, “Penelope’s Loom,” a deconstructed carpet of many colored dancing threads. Knowing it was meant for me, Ann Maria sent pictures and I said “buy it.” Matching yarn to the painting, she designed a custom round rug — the reconstructed carpet in silk and wool — that she had handmade and hand-knotted in Nepal. Now my turret room is anchored by an Ann Maria tapestry that represents her artistry, creative spirit, and instinctive knowledge of her client’s taste.
